Briar Hill Real Estate

Briar Hill is a community in northwest set on an escarpment, offering fabulous views of downtown and the Rocky Mountains to the west. The neighborhood is set near some of Calgary’s most significant institutions and recreational facilities, including the University of Calgary, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, McMahan Stadium and much more. Although the area was annexed as early as 1906, it wasn’t established as a community until 1953.

The community began as an eclectic mix of single family dwellings and condominiums. Today that same mix still exists. There are many different styles of home in the area, although the neighborhood has become popular for building large, expensive manor-style homes with amazing views of the downtown core. There are both low- and high-rise apartments available, as well as several townhomes.

Residents of Briar Hill have access to the local community center, a vibrant and busy place where programs are continually on offer for every resident. The community center was recently acquired and contains a gymnasium available for martial arts, summer basketball, indoor soccer, badminton, women’s self defense classes and much more.

For those with younger children there is an elementary school in the area, as well as numerous before and after school programs. Most of these programs used the elementary school building as a place to meet, and include a playgroup and other activities to keep your young ones busy during the summer months.

Because the neighborhood is almost within the inner-city there is plenty of shopping and recreation available. Younger residents of University age can enjoy the restaurants and nightclubs of 16th Avenue, while older residents can head to Kensington for a more relaxed selection of boutiques and cafes.

A single family residence in Briar Hill would start at around $500,000 and could range up to as high as $5 million. There are numerous condos throughout the area, popular especially with those of college-age. Condos start at under $200,000 and might go as high as $1 million.
